# Available financial data

MosoFin retrieves QuickBooks data only when a user asks a question or runs a skill. The exact data available depends on the connected company, the QuickBooks records it contains, and the workspace's API tool policies.

Common read-only capabilities include:

* Profit and loss reports.
* Balance sheets.
* Cash flow reports.
* Trial balances and general ledger detail.
* Chart of accounts information.
* Invoice and receivables details.
* Bill and payables details.

See the [API tools reference](/sources/mosofin-source/quickbooks/api-tools.md) for the complete current catalog and invocation parameters.

## Reporting periods

When asking for a period-based report, include a clear start and end date. For comparisons, state both periods and whether you expect cash or accrual accounting.

## Permission controls

The source can be live while an individual tool remains unavailable. In **API Tools**, each QuickBooks read is set to **Enabled**, **Require permission**, or **Disabled**.

MosoFin returns only the data needed for the permitted request. It does not run a continuous background sync or maintain a separate standing copy of the books.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.mosofin.com/sources/mosofin-source/quickbooks/data-overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
